"Upper limit" and "lower limit" of the electrode? Causes and treatment methods

Graphite electrode news image209.jpg

  • The so-called electrode upper limit refers to that the electrode has reached the highest position specified by the stroke that can no longer rise.

  • The so-called electrode lower limit refers to that the electrode has reached the lowest position specified by the stroke and can no longer be lowered.

The electrode formation is at the upper or lower limit, which is abnormal and has an adverse impact on equipment maintenance. When an electrode is at the upper limit, the current is too large, indicating that it will "trip" and even damage the electrical equipment. When an electrode is at the lower limit, it is easy to burn out the copper tile. Therefore, if the electrode is at the upper or lower limit, it shall be adjusted immediately to prevent equipment accidents.

Causes of electrode in upper limit and treatment methods

1. Due to the excessive addition of carbon materials, the conductivity of furnace charge is enhanced, and the current is too high, so that the electrode is at the upper limit. In this case, stop   the base electrode and add some hard materials. If it is invalid, move the copper tile "upside down" electrode downward to reduce the length of the working end of the electrode.

2. Because the length of the working end of the electrode is too long, the electrode is at the upper limit. In this case, stop sitting on the electrode and add some hard materials. If it is invalid, move the copper tile "upside down" electrode downward to reduce the length of the working end of the electrode.

3. Prolonged smelting time, too much molten iron in the furnace, so that the electrode is in the upper limit. In this case, first add some hard materials to prevent the electrode from rising. At the same time, open the tap hole immediately to prolong the tap time and make it out completely.

4. Because the road condition is too sticky and dryness is too small, the electrode does not plug down, and the load fluctuates, the electrode may also be at the upper limit. In this case, the operation of piercing air holes shall be strengthened to increase the air permeability of the material surface and expand the crucible; For the circuit with large capacity, 200 ~ 300kg lime can be added to expand the crucible so that the electrode can be deeply inserted.

5. The material surface is too high and the feeding speed is too fast, which may also make the electrode at the upper limit. In this case, we should reduce the height of the material surface, slow down the feeding speed, and strictly control the height of the material surface.

It must be pointed out that operators should attach great importance to the harmfulness of the electrode at the upper limit.

If only one phase electrode is at the upper limit, the method of reducing the current of other two-phase electrodes can be used. If two or three phase electrodes are in the upper limit at the same time, emergency measures must be taken, or even the method of reducing the secondary voltage must be taken to prevent "tripping". Another example is that the length of the working end of the electrode is too long, so that the electrode is at the upper limit. If other methods are invalid, the electrode will be "inverted" and the copper tile will be "arc striking". Will be forced to break part of the electrode. However, this method causes serious consequences and electrode accidents may occur. Therefore, it is rarely used.

Causes of electrode in lower limit and treatment methods

1. The length of the working end of the electrode is too short, so that the electrode is at the lower limit. In this case, if the electrode baking quality is good, the electrode can be lowered. If the electrode is not baked, do not lower the electrode, but add some soft materials to increase the conductivity of the charge. After the electrode is sintered, lower the electrode.

2. The material surface of a phase electrode is hard, and the electrode is inserted too deep, so that the electrode is at the lower limit. In this case, add some carbon or soft materials to the base of the electrode. For the electric furnace with large capacity, some recycled silicon can also be added to the material surface of the phase electrode, but it should not be added under the copper tile to prevent burning out the copper tile, contact us for the professional technical guidance.
