China's Steel Exports in H1 2025
According to statistics released by the General Administration of Customs of the People's Republic of China, in June 2025, China exported 9.678 million tons of steel, a year-on-year increase of 10.7%, but a month-on-month decrease of 8.5%. From January to June, China exported a total of 58.147 million tons of steel.
Although China's total steel export volume in H1 2025 increased by 9.2% compared with the same period last year, changes in the domestic market and the restriction of exports due to foreign trade remedy investigations led to a month-on-month decline in exports in June.
Export Destinations in June
In June, China's steel exports were still mainly concentrated in Southeast Asia and the Middle East, but exports to major countries like Vietnam and Indonesia declined significantly. Exports to ASEAN, African Union (AU), the European Union (EU), and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) all saw substantial month-on-month declines, with GCC exports plunging by 20.6%.
Among China's top ten export destinations in June, eight countries experienced a month-on-month decline, with only India and Malaysia showing growth.
China's Steel Export Destinations (Jan–Jun 2025)
1. In June, steel exports to ASEAN countries declined 11% MoM, with significant declines of over 15% to Vietnam, Thailand, and Indonesia.
2. Exports to GCC countries dropped sharply; UAE and Saudi Arabia saw MoM declines of 22.4% and 26%, respectively.
3. Exports to AU (African Union) also began to fall, with an 11.3% MoM drop in June.
4. Exports to the EU fell 13.1% MoM.
5. In Latin America, as the "rush export" effect faded, steel exports to Brazil sharply decreased; in June, exports to Brazil were 215,000 tons, down 51.0% MoM.
On July 28, 2025, Brazil's Executive Management Committee (GECEX) issued Resolution No. 773, announcing that for the next five years, China's seamless carbon steel pipes will continue to be subject to anti-dumping duties ranging from USD 778.99 to 835.47 per ton.
