Carburant is auxiliary material used in the steelmaking and casting industries to increase carbon content and remove sulfur, which is most widely used in the steelmaking industry. Factors such as long smelting times, holding times, and overheating times can result in increased loss of carbon elements in molten iron, leading to a decrease in carbon content and inability to reach the theoretical value of refining. Carburant is added externally to make up for the carbon content burned during steelmaking and ironmaking processe. It is an essential auxiliary additive for producing high-quality steel.

Types of Carburant

Carburant can be classified by raw materials into: wood-based carbons, coal-based carbons, coke-based carbons, and graphite-based carbons. Coal-based carburant can be further divided into ordinary calcined coal carburant, pitch coke carburant, and metallurgical coke carburant. Coke (petroleum coke)-based carburant can be divided into calcined petroleum coke carburant, graphitized petroleum coke carburant, and semi-graphitized petroleum coke carburant. Graphite-based carburant include flake graphite carburant, natural graphite carburant, and composite material graphite carburant. High-quality carburant generally refer to graphitized carburant with a microstructure at high temperatures that exhibits a graphite-like arrangement of carbon atoms, hence the name "graphitized."
