Market Analysis

Influenced by both raw materials and demand, the overall domestic carburant prices in China showed a downward trend throughout 2023.

Price Analysis

Graphitized Petroleum Coke Carburants Price Trend.jpg

Throughout 2023, the prices of graphitized petroleum coke (GPC) carburants in China weakened overall. At the beginning of the year, the carburant price was 7,000 CNY/ton, and by the end of 2023, it had dropped to 4,500 CNY/ton, representing a decrease of 3,500 CNY/ton or 35.71%. Currently, most of the domestic graphitized petroleum coke carburants come as by-products from negative electrode materials manufacturers. With a decline in the production of negative electrode enterprises, the inventory of graphitized petroleum coke carburants is not high, and the domestic prices have stabilized.

Throughout 2023, the prices of calcined petroleum coke (CPC) carburants in China experienced a fluctuating decline. At the beginning of the year, the price was 8,000 CNY/ton, and by the end of the year, it had dropped to 4,000 CNY/ton, marking a significant decrease of 4,000 CNY/ton or 50%. A slight rebound in the prices occurred in the 6-8 months in the Northeastern region due to a minor increase in the low-sulfur coke prices. This influenced a slight upward movement in the prices of calcined petroleum coke carburants. However, in September, there was no apparent support from raw materials, and the prices stabilized weakly.

Throughout 2023, the prices of coal-based carburants in China, specifically 92-grade carburants, also showed a downward trend. Starting from 3,550 CNY/ton at the beginning of the year, the price dropped to 2,000 CNY/ton, representing a decrease of 1,550 CNY/ton. The raw material price of smokeless coal for coal-based carburants declined by 30.49% throughout the year. With passive procurement on the demand side, there was no clear support for coal-based carburants, leading to an overall weakness in prices in 2023. For more information on petroleum coke products, feel free to contact us at any time.
