【Graphite Electrodes & Needle Coke】Import and Export Data in China for August 2024 Released

1. Graphite Electrodes

According to customs data, China's graphite electrode export volume in August 2024 was 32,300 tons, up 33.25% month-on-month but down 30.63% year-on-year. From January to August 2024, China's total graphite electrode exports amounted to 224,000 tons, a slight decrease of 0.38% year-on-year. The main export destinations for China's graphite electrodes in August 2024 were the UAE, South Korea, and Malaysia.

2. Needle Coke

Petroleum-based Needle Coke

According to customs data, China's petroleum-based needle coke imports in August 2024 were 5,000 tons, down 79.70% year-on-year and down 28.54% month-on-month. From January to August 2024, China's total petroleum-based needle coke imports reached 63,600 tons, down 20.55% year-on-year. In August 2024, the main import source of China's petroleum-based needle coke was the UK, with an import volume of 4,900 tons. In the same period, China's petroleum-based needle coke export volume was approximately 8,500 tons, with Saudi Arabia, India, and Russia being the main export destinations.

 Coal-based Needle Coke

According to customs data, China's coal-based needle coke imports in August 2024 were 3,300 tons, an increase of 0.04% month-on-month but a decrease of 19.12% year-on-year. From January to August 2024, China's total coal-based needle coke imports reached 54,500 tons, up 4.38% year-on-year. The main import countries for China's coal-based needle coke in August 2024 were South Korea and Japan, with import volumes of 2,500 tons and 800 tons, respectively.
