According to data from the General Administration of Customs, the total import volume of uncalcined petroleum coke in China for January and February 2025 was 2.318 million tons. In January 2025, the import volume of uncalcined petroleum coke was 1.2142 million tons, an increase of 23.53% compared to the previous month and an increase of 3.33% compared to the same period last year. In February 2025, the import volume of uncalcined petroleum coke was 1.1799 million tons, a decrease of 2.82% compared to the previous month and a decrease of 3.24% compared to the same period last year.
In January and February 2025, the domestic uncalcined petroleum coke market fluctuated at a high level, but there was still a shortage of low-sulfur sources. Downstream enterprises had a strong willingness to replenish inventory, providing strong support for demand, which attracted imported resources into the market. The overall import volume remained relatively high.

The major export countries for Chinese graphite electrodes in February 2025 were South Korea, Russia, and India.

According to customs data, the import volume of petroleum-based needle coke in China in January 2025 was 180 tons, a decrease of 91.39% compared to the same period last year and a decrease of 71.06% compared to the previous month. In February 2025, the import volume of petroleum-based needle coke in China was 900 tons, a decrease of 80% compared to the same period last year and a decrease of 49.3% compared to the previous month. The total import volume of petroleum-based needle coke in China for January and February 2025 was 2,700 tons, a decrease of 89.32% compared to the same period last year. The major import country for petroleum-based needle coke in China in February 2025 was Japan, with an import volume of 800 tons. In February 2025, China's export volume of petroleum-based needle coke was approximately 470 tons.

Coal-based Needle Coke

According to customs data, the import volume of coal-based needle coke in China in January 2025 was 750 tons, a decrease of 25.66% compared to the previous month. In February 2025, the import volume of coal-based needle coke in China was 880 tons, an increase of 17.47% compared to the same period last year and an increase of 16.57% compared to the previous month. The total import volume of coal-based needle coke in China for January and February 2025 was 1.63 million tons, an increase of 12.8% compared to the same period last year. The major import countries for coal-based needle coke in China in February 2025 were South Korea and Japan, with import volumes of 640 tons and 230 tons, respectively.
