Graphite powder can be broadly classified into two main categories: natural graphite powder and artificial graphite powder. Natural graphite powder is extracted from graphite mines, similar to coal mining. Artificial graphite powder is processed from high-purity graphite through steps such as grinding and pulverization. Artificial graphite powder has better performance, higher purity, finer particle size, and can be processed to the nanometer level, but it is relatively expensive. Natural graphite powder has a slightly lower purity, typically around 99%, and a coarser particle size, but it is comparatively cheaper. In terms of material characteristics, there are differences between natural flake graphite and artificial flake graphite. Natural flake graphite, as the name suggests, has a flake-like structure. Although both are widely used in tablet computers and smartphones, artificial flake graphite is generally used in smartphones produced by companies like Xiaomi and Apple, while natural flake graphite is commonly used in domestic smartphones due to its significant price advantage.

Production and processing methods also differ for natural flake graphite and artificial flake graphite. Natural flake graphite undergoes deep processing, including mining, flotation, drying, classification, purification, and crushing.
