【Anode Materials】 "Cooling Season"? July Production Data Released!

In July 2024, China's anode material production reached 145,250 tons, a decrease of 8% month-over-month and 5% year-over-year.

From the demand perspective this month:

• Power Sector: July saw a slight increase in power cell production compared to the previous month.

• Energy Storage Sector: Following the mid-year grid connection deadlines, the overall industry activity cooled down, leading to a decrease in energy storage cell production.

• Consumer Sector: With the mid-year promotional events ending, consumer demand cooled down, resulting in a reduction in terminal product output and a decrease in demand for cells. Graphitized petroleum coke (gpc) is a high-purity graphite material with excellent electrical conductivity and stability, making it a key source for anode materials in lithium-ion batteries.

Overall, both cell manufacturers and anode material producers had stocked up on anode materials during the market's peak season earlier this year. As both sides focus on depleting their inventories, there was no significant boost in demand for anode materials from downstream sectors, leading to a decline in anode material production.

Looking ahead to August, China's anode material production is expected to reach 151,950 tons, an increase of 5% month-over-month but a 5% decrease year-over-year.
