Negative electrode production fell 14% MOM in January, market demand gradually recovered

In January 2023, China's negative electrode materials production was 103057 tons, down 14% month-on-month and up 37% year-on-year. 

In terms of demand, due to the completion of the national subsidy and the Spring Festival holiday of the battery plants, the market demand for power lithium battery and consumer lithium battery is slightly weak. Although the lithium batteries growth is fast this year, most energy storage battery enterprises are also in the holiday reduction period, and the negative electrode demand is generally reduced.

On the supply side, due to the weak demand during the holiday, most of the small and medium-sized negative electrode manufacturers stopped production. Most head manufacturers produced according to orders, reducing the production load, and the market supply fell to the lowest level in January.

In February, the demand side recovered slowly after the holiday, the production of lithium battery energy storage side recovered well, and the new orders of large manufacturers were active; In terms of supply, negative electrode manufacturers has resumed production and the supply has increased.
