【Statistics Bureau】China's Crude Steel Production Declines 5.9% in May

According to data from the National Bureau of Statistics, in May 2023, the daily average production of crude steel was 2.9071 million metric tons, down 5.9% compared to the previous month. The daily average production of pig iron was 2.4839 million metric tons, down 4.3% compared to the previous month. The daily average production of steel products was 3.8216 million metric tons, down 4.4% compared to the previous month. In May, China's crude steel production totaled 90.12 million metric tons, a year-on-year decrease of 7.3%. Pig iron production amounted to 77 million metric tons, down 4.8% compared to the same period last year. Steel product production reached 118.47 million metric tons, down 1.3% compared to the same period last year.

From January to May, China's crude steel production reached 444.63 million metric tons, a year-on-year increase of 1.6%. Pig iron production amounted to 37.474 million metric tons, an increase of 3.2% compared to the same period last year.
