Graphite electrode giant GRAFTECH: price increase 17% - 20% in Q1 FY22

According to overseas media reports, the CEO of GRAFTECH, the world's major graphite electrode manufacturer, recently said that graphite electrode market continued to improve in the fourth quarter of 2021,  with non-long term graphite electrode price increased by 10% compared with the third quarter, and these positive trends are expected to continue into 2022.

Driven by the recent global inflationary pressure, graphite electrode cost will continue to rise in 2022, especially third-party needle coke, energy and freight. GRAFTECH predicts that graphite electrode prices in the first quarter of 2022 will increase by 17% - 20% compared with the fourth quarter of last year. 

GRAFTECH was once the largest manufacturer of graphite electrodes in the world, with an annual production capacity of 230,000-250,000 tons.
