【Carburant】Price Trends: Is Semi-Graphitized Supply Tight?

During the week of October 24-31, the trading atmosphere in China's carburant market was generally moderate. For calcined coal carburant, the prices are as follows: 1,825 CNY/ton for 90C ordinary quality and 1,945 CNY/ton for 90C high quality; 1,995 CNY/ton for 92C ordinary quality and 2,125 CNY/ton for high-quality mainstream products. The prices mentioned are ex-factory and tax-inclusive.

As we enter the fourth quarter, coal mines are concluding their annual production tasks, and the overall output is limited. Due to rising raw material costs, the production cost of calcined coal carburant is increasing, leading downstream buyers to adopt a wait-and-see approach. It is expected that prices for calcined coal carburant will remain relatively strong in the short term.

Regarding graphitized carburant, for products with C≥98.5% and S≤0.05%, the price is between 3,400-3,500 CNY/ton (tax-inclusive). For semi-graphitized carburant with C≥98.5% and S≤0.3%, the mainstream price in the market is around 2,900-3,000 CNY/ton (tax-inclusive). On the raw material side, anode manufacturers are adjusting production based on sales and controlling inventory levels. Some subcontracting companies have completed their production for the year and are beginning maintenance shutdowns. This situation may lead to a short-term reduction in market supply of semi-graphitized carburant as a byproduct of anode production.

In summary, the raw material market for semi-graphitized carburant is relatively tight and is facing a predicament of having products available but limited demand. Short-term changes in demand may have a more decisive impact on prices, which are likely to continue fluctuating within a narrow range. The raw material side provides adequate overall support for graphitized carburant, with prices expected to exhibit a strong upward trend.
