Introduction to graphite electrode
Graphite electrode is mainly made of petroleum coke and needle coke as raw materials and coal tar pitch as binder through calcination, batching, kneading, molding, baking, graphitization and machining. It is a conductor that releases electric energy in the form of electric arc in the electric arc furnace (EAF) to heat and melt the furnace charge.
According to its quality index, it can be divided into regular power graphite electrode, high power graphite electrode and ultra-high power graphite electrode.
The main raw material for graphite electrode production is petroleum coke. A small amount of pitch coke can be added to regular power graphite electrode. The sulfur content of petroleum coke and pitch coke shall not exceed 0.5%. Needle coke is also needed to produce for high power or ultra-high power graphite electrode.
The main raw material for aluminum anode production is petroleum coke, and the sulfur content shall not be greater than 1.5% ~ 2%. Petroleum coke and pitch coke shall meet relevant national quality standards.
The main uses of graphite electrode include:
(1) For electric arc steelmaking furnace
Graphite electrode is majorly used for Electric furnace steelmaking. In China, the output of electric furnace steel accounts for about 18% of the crude steel output, and the graphite electrode for steelmaking accounts for 70% ~ 80% of the total consumption of graphite electrode. Electric furnace steelmaking uses graphite electrode to introduce current into the furnace, and uses the high-temperature heat source generated by electric arc between electrode end and furnace charge.
(2) For submerged arc furnace
The submerged arc furnace is mainly used to produce industrial silicon and yellow phosphorus, etc. ,its characteristic is the lower part of the conductive electrode buried in furnace charge, arc formed within the material layer, and uses the heat energy generated by the resistance of the charge to heat the charge. Among them, the submerged arc furnace with high current density requires graphite electrode. For example, about 100kg graphite electrode is consumed for every 1ton silicon production, and about 40kg graphite electrode is consumed for every 1t yellow phosphorus production.
(3) For resistance furnace
The graphitization furnace for producing graphite products, the melting furnace for melting glass and the electric furnace for producing silicon carbide belong to resistance furnace. The materials in the furnace are both heating resistance and heated object. Generally, the graphite electrode for conducting electricity is embedded in the furnace head wall at the end of the resistance furnace, where the graphite electrode is used for discontinuous consumption.
(4) Used for preparing special-shaped graphite products
The blank graphite electrode is also used for processing various crucible, mold, boat and heating body and other special-shaped graphite products. For example, in the quartz glass industry, 10ton of graphite electrode billet is needed for every 1ton of electric fuse tube production; 100kg of graphite electrode billet is needed to produce 1ton quartz brick, get the pofessional graphite electrode products contact us.
